Coming into effect on July 1 2018, a range of changes will be made to the inner workings of the .AU domain name space, with some exciting benefits for .AU registrants.
A New Registry Operator
Australia’s ccTLDs will no longer be managed by AusRegistry, and instead, will be transitioned over to Afilias from July 01, 2018. As a result of this migration, all EPP codes will be reset and subsequently updated after the migration is complete.
Updated Pricing
Due to the cost of registering Australian ccTLDs being dropped, will be subsequently reducing the cost of all eligible domain names. Updated prices will come into effect shortly after July 01, 2018.
Flexible Registration Periods
All Australian ccTLDs will be available for registration and renewal for your choice of 1-5 years from July 01, 2018.
Change of Registrants will only be available for a 1-year re-registration on launch, however, we expect this to be patched in the coming weeks, offering your choice of 1-5 years. Live Websites Will Not Be Affected
Afilias has scheduled downtime at the registry level between 8:00am Saturday the 30th of June and 8:00pm Sunday, the 1st of July (AEST).
During this time, pending renewals and Change of Registrants may be affected. Transfers will not be processed for a minimum of 48 hours after the transition to Afilias is complete and new registrations will not be available until after the scheduled downtime.
Users will be unable to update nameservers during this time, however, existing DNS will remain intact and should not affect existing records.
Domain names due for deletion will not be purged until at least 14 days after the transition process is complete. This means that any domains due to be dropped between June 30 and July 14 will not do so until after this time.
